Meet Amy Cohen, MPH
Clinical Trials Strategist & Patient Advocate
I founded The Patient Room to reimagine how patient voice is included in trial design. I’ve lived it from both sides. As a sickle cell patient and a public health professional, I help sponsors bridge the trust gap that keeps trials from reaching their full potential.
I believe inclusion in research should be meaningful, not performative. My work ensures patient voices are not just heard but woven into the DNA of the protocol.
Past experience includes:
Supporting six clinical trial teams working in pain and rare disease with recruitment, protocol review, and patient engagement strategy
Facilitating advisory boards for high-sensitivity and historically excluded populations
Speaker at Massachusetts Sickle Cell Association events, including the Massachusetts State House, as well as the Rare Disease Summit and Measuring Patient Engagement Summit
The Patient Room is a consultancy focused on helping clinical research teams humanize clinical trials through trust trust-centered strategy.
Led by Amy Cohen, MPH, we work across therapeutic areas with a specialty in rare disease and high-sensitivity trials to elevate patient voices in ways that are structured, scalable, and authentic.
Three Core Service Pillars
Patient Voice & Engagement Strategy
We partner with clinical research teams to build engagement strategies that are rooted in community insight and patient realities. From early listening sessions to advisory board facilitation, we ensure you’re capturing what patients actually need, not just what your metrics demand.
Ideal for sponsors launching rare disease or high-sensitivity trials who want to build trust before the first participant is screened.
Trust-Centered Communication
We develop outreach frameworks, messaging, and educational materials anchored in cultural humility, clarity, and credibility. Whether you're refining recruitment language or shaping a broader awareness campaign, we help ensure your communication builds connection, not confusion.
Our approach is especially effective for trials involving historically excluded communities and populations with deep-rooted skepticism.
Clinical Trial Design Advice Grounded in Lived Experience
We advise clinical research teams on how to design trials that are operationally sound and genuinely patient-centered. This includes protocol reviews, visit burden assessments, and participant journey mapping, all viewed through a lens of trust, equity, and feasibility.
We support early feasibility planning and co-design sessions informed by both public health expertise and lived experience.
Let’s Build the Future of Trials, Together
Whether you need a clear engagement strategy, trusted facilitation, or a patient voice at the table, The Patient Room is ready to support your study goals.
